Are you ready for the fourth Novelty Act?! What? You haven’t been yet? No worries. You can jump on board next week.
Sara Bynoe and Riel Hahn present a night of comedy, storytelling, and joy.
Why novelty act? Well… sometimes women in comedy get referred to as a ‘novelty act.’ Bynoe and Hahn think that’s bullshit, so they got together and have decided to do a night of whatever they want to do and if that’s a novelty act, so be it!
It’s Sara Bynoe and Riel Hahn on stage. And you! That’s it. That’s plenty!
Whatever this night is, we guarantee it will be fun! And we’ll probably wear lipstick.
Tuesday, April 28 | 8-10 PM
Tickets $8 in advance | $10 at the door
The Emerald | 555 Gore | In the back cabaret room where it’s nice and sexy
I am a Vancouver based comedian who has been described as “delicious”, “hilarious”, “ferocious”, “filthy mouthed” and as “a blizzard in the House of Commons”. I grew up traveling with the Caravan Stage Company, town to town by horse and wagon, and later worked extensively with the Caravan Farm Theatre. Familialy, I come from a long line of compassionate, opinionated, active and funny lefties. These experiences provided me with a rich cache of stories, and some discomfort with stasis and classism. I am constantly searching for the new, inclusive and stimulating both personally and professionally. Ultimately I believe that funny trumps everything.
I’m a performer who has been described as “charismatic,’ ‘lovely,’ ‘talented,’ ‘effervescent,’ ‘brash’ and ‘a local mover and shaker.’ For the last 15 years I’ve been running an event called Teen Angst Night. For the last 4 years I’ve been running a show called Say Wha?! Readings of Deliciously Rotten Writing. I went to two theatre schools. I Story Produced the first season of Sex Sent Me To The ER on TLC. I’ve been doing improv with VTSL’s Rookie Night for so long that I just quit it. I believe if everyone could laugh at themselves and learn to play the world would be a better place. I recently had a sex dream about my vibrator.
If you like us, or are interested in what we do, come to Novelty Act.
It will be part improv, part theatre, and part storytelling event, and a TOTAL PARTY with two of Vancouver’s favourite weirdos.
BONUS| The Emerald has 1/2 price cocktails on Tuesdays!
