This is sure to be a fun evening of literary and comedic minds. I hope to make it past round one.

What’s a Haiku Death Match?

A Haiku Death Match is the most extreme form of poetic battle. Using only haiku that poets themselves have written, 16 haikusters will battle it out to see who will be crowned champion!

What’s a haiku? A haiku is a poem consisting of three phrases of 5, 7, and 5 syllables. You got that? 1st line-5 syllables, 2nd line-7, and 3rd line-5.

Traditionally, haiku is a Japanese form, most often used to describe aspects of the natural world. For our purposes, though, the theme a poet chooses doesn’t matter – they can be funny, sad, sexy, bizarre, whatever.

Here’s an example:

the worst time to have
a heart attack is during
a game of charades

Here’s another example:

haikus are easy
but sometimes they don’t make sense
refridgerator

16 haikusters will battle it out. Head to head style.

Come over to EastVan and witness the fitness – of poetic minds.
