Music Challenge

Apparently there’s a music challenge going on. At least on Facebook.

It’s supposed to take a month but I challenged myself to complete it in a weekend because that’s how I roll- or perhaps I was procrastinating from other work. Then I got busy and just finished it now. So, I guess it took me a week.

Please post your own songs/ responses in the comments, or just leave your judgments of mine.

MONTH LONG MUSIC CHALLENGE

day 01 – your favorite song

Deee-lite Groove is in the Heart.

I have no shame about loving this song. I will leave a conversation and RUN to the dance floor when I hear the this song – that’s how powerful it is.

day 02 – your least favorite song

This is a tie between Cotton Eye Joe and anything by Great Big Sea. Celtic rock that was big in the 90s is like nails on a chalk board to me.

day 03 – a song that makes you happy

The Contours – Do You Love Me

I don’t really know why this song makes me happy right now, but I’m loving dancing to it.

day 04 – a song that makes you sad

Waiting on an Angel- Ben Harper

When I was 20 I went through the biggest heartbreak I have ever experienced. Mostly because I was young and it came out of nowhere. Such a terrible heartbreak that I didn’t eat for nearly a month. Me and the guy used to listen to this song – I thought of it as ‘our song.’ So, after we broke up I would sob when I heard it.  I still have sense memory pain when I listen to this song. Or perhaps I’m still waiting on an angel.

day 05 – a song that reminds you of someone

See above. Or … 9-5 by Dolly Parton always reminds me of my bff Joleen, because she rocks it a karaoke.

day 06 – a song that reminds you of somewhere

Where’s your Head At by Basement Jaxx reminds me of Calgary New Years Eve (2001?) waiting for the bus to downtown singing ‘where’s the bus at?’

day 07 – a song that reminds you of a certain event

See above – also Rock and Roll McDonalds by Wesley Willis. I remember the exact moment I first heard this song. I was 14 or 15 years old in the back seat of a car that my friend Joleen’s Mom was driving. We were listening to CJSW, the radio station from the University of Calgary and it was on some punk rock hour. We were amazed by this songs awesomeness. Years later I saw Wesley Willis in concert at the Night Gallery in Calgary.

day 08 – a song that you know all the words to

So many. I’m gonna go with Like A Prayer by Madonna as it’s my go to karaoke song.

day 09 – a song that you can dance to

I can dance to a lot of songs- I love dancing. But one of my most played DDPP songs is Sexyback by Justin Timberlake.

day 10 – a song that makes you fall asleep

Since I can’t fall asleep with any noise going on around me this is a very difficult choice for me. Maybe something classical and slow like this.

day 11 – a song from your favorite band

Favorite band? Band? Favorite? Do I have a favorite? How about LCD Soundsystem, they’re a band right? Here’s a great video. LINK

day 12 – a song from a band you hate

EASY! Anything by the Beach Boys. I hate male falsetto harmony. Again, it’s like nails on a chalk board. California Girls. I’m not even going to link to them because I hate them so much.

day 13 – a song that is a guilty pleasure

In no way to I feel bad about this but this song is a bit of a guilty pleasure: Ke$ha’s Tik Tok.

day 14 – a song that no one would expect you to love

I’m not convinced that anyone would expect me not to love anything. I’m a pretty open minded person. I think no one would expect me to love Working For The Weekend by Loverboy.

day 15 – a song that describes you

day 16 – a song that you used to love but now hate

But I love nostalgia…. Perhaps a song I used to love but now hate is … something by Soundgarden. I think I only liked them because everyone else did.

day 17 – a song that you hear often on the radio

I don’t often listen to the radio. But I guess Lady Gaga’s Born This Way is popular right now.

day 18 – a song that you wish you heard on the radio

Groove is in the Heart

day 19 – a song from your favorite album

I don’t have favorite albums. Sorry.

day 20 – a song that you listen to when you’re angry

Angry? I don’t get angry? I stifle my emotions and get sad.

day 21 – a song that you listen to when you’re happy

Ummm Groove is in the Heart?

day 22 – a song that you listen to when you’re sad

Groove is in the Heart – to make me happier!

day 23 – a song that you want to play at your wedding

At Last by Ella Fitzgerald.

day 24 – a song that you want to play at your funeral

Groove is in the Heart, duh.

day 25 – a song that makes you laugh

Most Beautiful Girl (in the room) Flight of the Conchords.

day 26 – a song that you can play on an instrument

On guitar I can kinda play Miss World by Hole and the intros to Crazy Train, Come As You Are and Landslide.

day 27 – a song that you wish you could play

When I was eight I tried learning flute I always wanted to play Edvard Grieg’s “Morning Mood.”

day 28 – a song that makes you feel guilty

Groove is in the Heart. I feel guilty to all the other songs for liking this one SO much.

day 29 – a song from your childhood

She-ra Theme Song.

day 30 – your favorite song at this time last year

Good question. I think a year ago I was listening to Kate Nash a lot, so this one is probably my favorite.
