Say Wha?! 4 Year Anniversary Recap

Say Wha?! May 2014 Recap

Here’s what was covered last night at Say Wha?! Readings of Deliciously Rotten Writing

Sara Bynoe – The Kind Mama by Alicia Silverstone. Highlights include “anecdotal evidence” about vaccines messing up babies and how being a vegan will cure every single ailment and disease you could possibly ever have- yes, EVERYTHING.

Lauren McGibbon – Red Sonia by two people – why does it take two people to write a terrible book? Highlights include her skimpy warrior costume and being in Hell, next to Hell and something else about Hell. Did this book mention Hell enough?

Cameron MacLeod – Cat Daddy by Jaxson Galaxy Highlights include many references to his epic hit single songwriting and “I love you” eyes to soothe your savage feline.

Brent Constantine – Billy Ray Cyrus Marvel Comic – presented as a power point presentation. Highlight include the fact that Brent skipped work to perfect his audio visual elements and WFT a BRC comic book?! Say Wha?!

John Cullen – Perfect – Pretty Little Liars. Highlights include John basically telling me to go F myself for having him follow Brent’s crazy and hilarious book presentation and good old inappropriate sex scenes with lots of smell references.

Riel Hahn – Conscious Un-coupling by Goopy Gwyneth Paltrow and some quack doctors. Highlights include “Don’t just go out for cigarettes and just never come back” and that all of the couples in the room started to hold on to each other as the reading went on. Amicable divorce forever! Conscious uncoupling never!

Final note: I’m so thrilled that so many people came to last night’s Say Wha?! show. The Cottage Bistro was just as packed as it was for the first one I produced nearly four years ago. As I said last night, this show has been such a pleasure. I got choked up at the end, because I’ve so many feelings about this chapter coming to a close. I’m off to Toronto for the summer to see if I can grow some roots there. I’ll be back in the fall and I will produce this show again, I’m just not sure if it’ll be a monthly event.

Thank you to everyone that got up and performed at this show – I know you all took risks and went out of your comfort zone at one point or another. Thank you to everyone that attended this show – I would not have been able to do it without you. A show with no audience? Ugh, as if! Thank you to all my friends that helped me with the door, or taking photos, videos, or promoting it on social media. I love you all. I love you so much.

Now, before I go and get all verklempt again, I’ll wrap this up by leaving you with two things.

1. Missed the show? Never been? Shame on you! Want to know what the fuss is about? Go and subscribe to the podcast. I share highlights every two weeks. There usually less than 25 minutes long and they’re funny. Go and listen to one or two or all of them. Details here.

2. Please tell your friends out east about the Toronto show. Sunday, June 15 | 7-8:30pm | Comedy Bar | 945 Bloor Street | $10
