Remember that scene in Anne of Green Gables where Anne talks about praying in an open field? No? Well, here it is:

CHAPTER VII Anne Says Her Prayers

“Why must people kneel down to pray?” If I really wanted to pray I’ll tell you what I’d do. I’d go out into a great big field all alone or into the deep, deep, woods, and I’d look up into the sky–up–up–up–into that lovely blue sky that looks as if there was no end to its blueness. And then I’d just feel a prayer.

Now I’m not a religious person. I wasn’t even baptized but there’s always a moment during my weekly Dance Dance Party Party that reminds me of that scene in Anne of Green Gables. If I was to pray I think I would do it while dancing.

Now imagine a room packed full of women and girls age 8- 65, bouncing, smiling, laughing and dancing. To me that is a celebration of life. It’s my place of worship.

Now imagine them singing along to this song.

Imagine them singing at the top of their lungs to each other, interpretive dancing, emoting and skipping around like fairies. How can you think anything except that life is wonderful and experience anything but joy. It was pure silliness and total commitment to the moment.

This is why I love Dance Dance Party Party; it’s about ladies getting together, having fun and being joyous. Want in? Join us Thursdays from 8:30 to 9:30 pm at Mt Pleasant Community Centre, 1 Kingsway, from now until December 8. It’s only $7 to drop-in, or you can register in person or by calling 604-257-3080 – class number 41700.401MP
