Beautiful Noses

I have a noticeable nose. I’ve written about it before.

It’s something I sometimes feel insecure about. Sometimes I wonder if it turns people off me, or the reason I don’t book acting parts, or the reason why the guy I like doesn’t like me back.

Yet, people rarely comment on my nose- a least they don’t to my face. People are more likely to comment on my eyes, smile, or dimples. I’m ashamed to say how often I think about my nose. I have learned to tollerate looking at pictures or videos of my profile.

Thankfully, I recently stumbled across this tumblr – F*ck Yeah Big Noses. It’s amazing. There are so many beautiful noses on this site.  Pictures of real people, with their real noses, who feel the same feelings I do about their noses, and they are accepting themselves.

I was scrolling through the images and thought, if I can think these noses are beautiful, then I can think mine is too.

I’m still working on it… and it’s getting easier. Thanks, F*ck Yeah Big Noses.

I think my nose looks good in this sailor suit.

I think my nose looks good in this sailor suit.

Also, I’m pretty sure that if I ever did get a nose job I’d fall into the same category as Ashlee Simpson and Jennifer Grey: completely unrecognizable.

Ikea Monkey

It’s been a while since I’ve posted something under the category of “Best of the Internet.” My apologies  I’m trying to curb my Internet addiction by reading books. That’s right! Good books! Not just Say Wha?! books, but thats not what this post is about.

Yesterday I was online and stumbled upon a photo of a monkey in what appeared to be a mini sheep-skin jacket.

The photo is amusing in and of itself, but the memes that have been created in the past day are quite amusing.

However, the story  behind it is a sad one. A woman in Toronto took her pet monkey (wait- Canadians are allowed to own exotic pets?!) to Ikea where it caused a scene. Luckily, the monkey is now with Animal Services. Why someone would actually own a monkey as a pet is beyond me. Of course, after working as a researcher on Confessions: Animal Hoarding, the idea of owning any pet is somewhat revolting to me.

This video of Ikea Monkey is my favorite thing to come out of the meme.

This reminded whole story also me when I was living in London and BBC Channel 4 played a documentary called My Monkey Baby.

‘Merica is a weird, weird place.

Best of the Internet – Vampire Dancer

I came across Eliza Skinner from the video Amy at the Club on College Humor. Someone sent the video link to me because they said it reminded them of me in my early 20s. Nonetheless, I have been a fan of her work ever since.

Vampire Dancer is one of my favorite videos from her YouTube account. I think it deserves more views. It’s a great example of simple storytelling and character work. I wish I could create something like it.

Come on brain, get to work on it. What else could be mashed up? Fifty Shades of Hunger Games?

Thanks, Internet!

This amused me today.

Red Nose Day. The Flight of the Conchords interview some children about ways to help sick kids. They then take the children’s words and turn it into a song. Yes, it is worth 14 minutes of your time. Skip to the 2 minute mark to get straight to the Conchords part. Or better yet skip to 5 minutes in to get to the interviews with kids.

Best of the Internet – Sept 13

I’m feeling a twinge of a cold coming on. I’m achey and chilled. So, in order to fight this impending illness I bought some fresh squeezed OJ and parked myself down on my couch and turned to my good friend the Internet to entertainment for a few hours.

Here’s the best that I came across.

Ask Amy

I found this on Jezebel

Amy Poehler gives fantastic advice to a girl who, like most women, is struggling with her body image. One of my favorite lines of this videos is, “there’s a lid for every pot.”

Hot and Sweaty

I have an Internet addiction. I am going to put it to good use and post the best of it here for you.

Today I give you this:

Alan Thicke performs “Sweaty and Hot” at the 1988 Crystal Light National Aerobic Championship, music and lyrics by Alan Thicke and Gary Pickus.

While you’re busy thinking about working out you might want to check THIS out too.

I love the Internet

I spend a lot of time on the Internet. Recently I had a job where I spent 8 hours a day watching YouTube and finding funny family friendly clips. It was awesome.

Because of this dream job and the excessive amount of time I spent online, I realized two things that have changed my life for the better.

Firstly; baby sloths are the new baby owls. They are the cutest thing on the Internet right now, and their popularity is growing. Don’t believe me? Check out this cuteness.

Wasn’t that adorable? Don’t you want to hang out with sloths all day long now? I do. Turns out so do the producers at Animal Planet because there is a show coming called Too Cute! Baby Sloths. What a title.

The other thing I learned is that Twitter is amazing. Don’t believe me? Here’s my proof. I tweeted in January that I wanted an e-reader so I could read some truly awful self-published books that were only available as ebooks. Then someone sent me one! Not someone from Kindle who was doing a brilliant job marketing their product. I was sent one by a regular guy who is awesome.

I know what you’re thinking and no, I didn’t have to send naked photos of myself or anything. He just wanted to help me and my comedy show Say Wha?! Twitter is amazing – proved!

Then, to add to this and further prove to you the dreams-come-true power of Twitter yesterday I tweeted:

It was decided a mash-up would be the cutest and hours later one of my Twitter followers @incredulousbear (I have no idea who he really is) made me these jpgs.

These are pretty adorable, right? They’re also hilarious. I laughed for 10 minutes straight and squealed with joy.

See, the Internet (and Twitter) is amazing! My life is so much better for it and I’ve connected with people in ways I never thought I would have before. I have made new friends that I’ve never event met and I also discovered a new favorite animal. (So long Scottish Fold kittens.)

But back to the debate. Which is cuter babies with glasses or sloths? Or it it really baby sloths with glasses?

Here are some pictures of babies with glasses. You decide. Either way I’m having a cute overload. Thank you Internet!
